FAVOURITE
PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATIONS
PLEASE
NOTE: Due to security restrictions imposed 1 July 2004 some of the
areas listed below may no longer be accessible.
Port
of Sydney, NSW
- Port Botany - Moulineaux Point, Henry Head or Bare Island.
- Port Jackson - Dawes Point, Milson's Point, North Head and Bradley's
Head are all very accessible.
- The Manly Ferry or Jetcat are great if you know the ETA of a ship.
Port
Kembla (Wollongong) , NSW
- Either breakwater is ideal for close-ups of ships entering or departing
(Southern for AM, Northern for PM).
Port
of Newcastle, NSW
- Alongside the boat ramp or the cadet unit on the southern side of the
harbour.
Port
of Brisbane, QLD
- From a barge or line handling boat is our preferred spot but you
can always try:
- Luggage Point or Pinkenba boat ramp (Afternoon only).
- Whyte Island (Beside the tug base).
Port
of Cairns, QLD
- The breakwater at Marlin Marina is a great vantage point, photography is
best between 10am and 3pm.
Port of Gladstone, QLD
- On the water is ideal, but reasonable photo's of ships going to the
top half of the port can be
obtained from the area adjacent to Gladstone marina.
Port of Hobart, TAS
- Hobart is blessed with a long river and an abundance of sandy beaches
and accessible headlands.
Depending on the sun Nutgrove Beach at Sandy Bay with a long lens is my
preference.
Port
of Launceston / Bell Bay, TAS
- For the morning I go to Georgetown and sit near the monument at Windmill
Point, in the afternoon the Western side of the river near Garden Island
is ideal. There is easy access at a number of points on each side of
the river.
Port
of Devonport, TAS
- Again both sides of the river are easily accessed, the Eastern side for
morning sun and the Spirit of Tasmania arrivals and the Western side for
afternoon photography.
Port
of Melbourne, VIC
-
The only decent photographs I've got in Melbourne have been from a boat
that runs between Southbank and Williamstown. A number of
Melbourne photographers have suggested that on water is best, but also
Gellibrand Point or some of the lower reaches of the Yarra River if you
can't get onto the water.
Singapore
- Hiring a boat for the Eastern and Western anchorages is always best
but if you are stuck on land try:
- Kusu Island (Great for ships passing through the Straits of Singapore)
- Sentosa Island (Western Anchorage)
